We run a sale around Black Friday every year, and others occasionaly if we're overstocked on certain items. All sales are announced on the mailing list. Sale codes have to be entered at checkout — the cart price doesn't change on its own.

No — we've got a lot of shop fixtures set up to make things just as they are, so one-offs aren't cost effective. For a wider span, pair modules (a 3-wide base and a 2-wide base make 5 wide base). The feet are removable if you prefer to leave them off, and the base can be cut shorter (see Base Customization on the Base product page). Small tweaks to existing products — mixed door colors, no doors, drawers without the divider — just ask when you order.

Sure thing — send your order number and we'll refund the 10%. If a code won't apply it's usually because it was already used (welcome codes are one-time).

Early prices didn't work for the business — material costs tripled and labor doubled — and we chose to keep making everything in the US at this quality. Ways to save: the mailing-list 10% coupon, the birch overstock sales, scratch and dent (scratch.simplewoodgoods.com), and local pickup in Cincinnati to skip shipping.

Everything ships together once the whole order is ready, so the longest lead time in the order applies. Items are packed in separate boxes and usually arrive together, but UPS sometimes separates them en route — the tracking page shows every package in the shipment.

We charge for shipping — the calculator at checkout gives the exact rate for your address and cart. We pass through our negotiated UPS rates without markup, but everything ships fully assembled and boxed individually, so it's bulky. No free shipping. Alaska and Hawaii: we ship there, but it can be prohibitively expensive. For very large orders (30+ cubes) LTL freight might make more sense; send the address and we'll get a freight quote.

Holds: email us (or put a note on the order) with the date you'd like it shipped. Address changes are fine as long as UPS hasn't picked up yet (they come by around 3PM); after that it's easiest to return and reorder. Pickup: see Local Pickup below.

Unfortunately we're not currently shipping to Canada or anywhere outside the US. The last shipment we sent had import duties imposed that were more than half the value of the goods, on top of shipping. Hopefully we can get back to it when things settle down.

Sure thing. If it's a recent order (within 1 year)it's still under warranty and we'll send one at no charge, usually same day. 1. Flex the door and pop it into the track from the front. Quicker — it's how we do it at the shop. There's a video on the replacement door page.
2. Remove the back of the cube (6 small screws), slide the new door in through the back, re-attach the back. Safest.

Wood (birch) doors have to go in from the back; acrylic doors can be flexed in from the front. Acrylic doors arrive with a brown paper mask on them — peel it off. The Stereocab replacement door listing is for one door.

Yep. If it arrived broken, send a note and we'll ship a replacement right away. Otherwise order them here: https://simplewoodgoods.com/products/replacement-foot. They screw onto the pre-drilled bottom with a Phillips screwdriver, and the same foot fits every product (Storage Cube, Stereocab, CD/DVD, 45 Cabinet, Browser). The "Storage Cube Base Replacement Foot" is a different part — the threaded metal leveller for the base.

The walnut is a veneer with a clear topcoat, not a stain, so the plywood edges show and are finished clear. We don't edge-band or stain the faces: the routed profile on the front that makes the door work makes veneer impractical and likely to come loose, and the mix of end grain and edge grain wouldn't take stain well — it's also a nod to Eames-style exposed plywood edges. Same reason the divots on a walnut top show birch underneath.

Dimensions and materials are exactly the same as they've always been, so old and new stack together. But wood is a natural product and changes color as it's exposed to light and air, so a piece bought a year ago won't match one bought today (new walnut is darker, new birch is lighter). We don't do custom finishes — we have a hard enough time stocking the options we already offer. The unfinished versions of our products are ready to stain or paint, so you can DIY or have a local furniture finisher handle it. Bases are powder coated in batches at the steel fabricator, so no custom or raw-steel base colors either.

Every cube ships with wooden feet (since early 2025) and is pre-drilled for both feet and casters, so you can swap either way with a Phillips screwdriver. Casters are an accessory, 4 per cube.

Yep, everything in the line stacks on cubes: order the cubes with divots and the piece on top with a smooth top (every piece has feet on the bottom). Widths match — 2-wide (28.5"), 3-wide (42.75"), 4-wide — and you can combine a 2-wide and 3-wide to span 5 cubes. The small CD/DVD cabinet and the 45 cabinet span exactly two cubes. About 70 LPs per cube (1000 LPs is 15 cubes). A full cube weighs just under 50 lbs — vinyl is about 33 lbs per linear foot. 78s are fine weight-wise. Note the Stereocab and the 45 / CD cabinets don't hold LPs and don't include cubes.

4 cubes high, fully loaded — on the floor or on a base (4 wide x 4 high on a base is fine). Higher is a tipping risk more than a strength problem. The feet just rest in the divots and weight keeps the stack in place — nothing locks — so if you have small kids who might climb, or live in a seismic zone, secure the stack to the wall with a generic anti-tip kit.

Cubes have been load tested to around 500 lbs (600 lbs of sandbags; joints held, sides bowed). Recommended max is about 300 lbs per cube. Sitting on one is fine; two turntables and a mixer on top is fine (I do this at home). The Stereocab has NOT been load tested and isn't meant for heavy loads - it should only go near the top of your stack.

Not required, but it really helps keep a stack tight and aligned on floors that aren't level. See Base / Feet & Casters.

If the Stereocab is your top layer (the usual setup), order it "Smooth"; the cubes under it get "Divots". It still ships with feet on the bottom, which drop into the cubes' divots and lock the row together (one Phillips screw each to remove). If you're stacking something on top of the Stereocab — cubes, 45s, a Browser Bin — order it with divots. We don't recommend stacking more than 1 row on top of a stereocab. A Browser Bin will sit on a smooth Stereocab, it just may need straightening now and then.

Yep, almost always. The Stereocab is the same depth as the cubes (built around a 12" record), so a lot of turntables are a little deeper than the top. That's fine: the isolation feet on most turntables are set in from the edges, so they land squarely on the cabinet and the back edge just overhangs a bit. Technics 1200/1210s fit this way with room at the back for the RCA cables. A U-Turn Orbit (what's pictured on the site) fits fully. Stereo equipment on top is fine, including two Technics and a mixer for DJing. But the Stereocab hasn't been load tested like the cubes, and it has no fixed back (that's how deeper components fit), so it's weaker than a cube. A Stereocab on the bottom with one of cubes, or one row of Browser Bins, on top is OK; don't put 2+ rows of loaded cubes on it. A 4-wide can bridge between cubes as long as it's just holding stereo gear. It's not a bench.

You probably got the right ones. The Stereocab ships with two acrylic doors for the front and two birch doors for the back (the back slides open for ventilation and deeper components). The acrylic doors have a brown paper mask on them to prevent scratches in shipping — peel it off and they're your clear/frost/color doors. If you really do have four birch doors, send a picture and we'll fix it.

We don't offer custom sizes or materials. The center divider on the 3- and 4-wide can't be removed or offset — it does most of the structural work since there's no back. Small asks we've said yes to: acrylic doors front and rear, mixed door colors, leaving doors off. Add a note at checkout or email after ordering.

Stereocab, Browser Bin, 45 cabinet and CD/DVD cabinet are all 10" tall with feet (9.25" without) and sit flush next to each other.

All the components stack with each other. The small sits on two cubes, the large on three — order divots on the cubes underneath. The base isn't required but helps if floors aren't level (small = 2-wide base, large = 3-wide). CD units can go directly on the base with no cubes, and can stack on each other (4–5 high on a base is fine). A CD unit at the bottom will happily carry 3 cubes of vinyl plus a Stereocab.

Small: 28.5" W x 10" H x 13.75" D (2 cubes wide), ~25 lbs. Large: 42.75" W x 10" H x 13.75" D (3 cubes wide), ~35 lbs. The 10" includes the feet; 9.25" with them removed. Interior: two sections per drawer, each ~5.5" front to back, ~7-3/8" of vertical space. Ships fully assembled.

Drawer fronts come in the opaque acrylic colors plus birch or walnut. Clear, smoke, clear blue, frosted and other translucent fronts aren't available on the CD/DVD or 45 cabinets — the acrylic is laminated onto a wooden drawer front, so transparent colors don't work. Birch fronts pair well with clear cubes. Want a different color on each drawer? Sure thing — email after you order and we'll install them that way.

Yep, the drawers pull out on steel ball-bearing side-mount slides (Knape & Vogt, rated 100 lbs, 12" deep with 1" overtravel so you can reach the whole drawer). Not soft close — that size of slide isn't available with a soft-close option.

It's a pull-out drawer (three of them), similar to the CD/DVD cabinet but with a smaller drawer box. 45s go in vertically, front to back. It has to sit horizontally (can't be stood on end). You can remove the drawers entirely if you'd rather have an open-fronted box — just a Phillips screwdriver to take off the mounting hardware.

Yep. It's meant to sit on top of two side-by-side cubes and uses the same divots/feet as everything else. It can also sit directly on the base, and a 4-wide Stereocab will sit on two 45 cabinets. It's probably the strongest product we make, so weight isn't an issue — very tall stacks are more of a tipping/reach concern.

Outside: 28.5" W x 13.75" D x 9.25" H (10" with feet) — 2 cubes wide, same height as the Stereocab, Browser Bin and CD/DVD cabinet. Inside: each drawer is 7.5" W x 7.5" D, with 7.75" of vertical space between the drawer bottom and the cabinet top.

13-3/4" deep x 14-1/4" wide x 9-1/4" tall without feet; 10" tall with feet — the same height as the Stereocab, 45 cabinet and CD/DVD cabinet. Birch version weighs around 10 lbs. Baltic birch plywood; walnut is a veneer over birch, front edges finished clear; unfinished can be painted or stained.

Everything ships with feet now, but they're very easy to remove — each foot is held on with a single Phillips screw. They're solid hardwood half-domes, 1.5" diameter, .75" tall, not adjustable. If you're not sure, order with feet and take them off later; you can add them back any time. If you stack without feet, add something to prevent slipping — the finish is fairly glossy.

We recommend 4 rows high, fully loaded, on a base. It's 1" square steel tube — we haven't formally load tested it, but 4 rows of cubes is no problem. Base + three rows of cubes + one more item (Stereocab, CD unit) is fine.

1, 2, 3, or 4 cubes wide, in black or white powder coat. It's 8" tall, 1" square steel tube, with adjustable steel leveling feet (they can raise it another half inch or so). The cube feet sit inside the open top and are hidden by it. Widths match the cube system, so a 2-wide + 3-wide makes a 5-wide row. No custom colors (silver, clear coat) — our fabricator powder coats them in large batches.

Yes, doors are easy to swap — order a replacement door in the new color and install it per the video on the replacement-door page. If you order a cube plus a different-color replacement door, email us and we'll combine shipping on a manual invoice. "Door color: none" on the dropdown means no door.

Transparent/translucent acrylic: clear, clear blue, smoke, frosted, wine (the clear red). Opaque: black, white, yellow, red, green. Wood: birch (walnut only on 45/CD drawer fronts). Orange was discontinued — not popular and cost a lot more. Yes, you can mix (e.g. one white and one yellow door on a Stereocab, or acrylic front and back) — just email when you place the order so we can note it.

Only the opaque doors (black, white, yellow, red, green, birch) block UV. The transparent and translucent colors (clear, clear blue, smoke, frosted, wine) let it through. We don't sell a UV-blocking translucent door.
